John Chidley-Hill is a Canadian sports journalist.
Working with the Canadian Press, he has reported on hundreds of live sporting events, including two Olympics (Tokyo '20 and Beijing '22), ten Canadian Open golf tournaments, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and regularly reports on Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Raptors, and Toronto Tempo games.
Early life
[edit]Chidley-Hill was born and raised in North Toronto where he attended Northern Secondary School.[1]
He attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 2007 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, History, and Canadian Studies. While at U of T, Chidley-Hill played lacrosse for the Varsity Blues Men's Field Lacrosse team.
Journalism career
[edit]In 2009, Chidley-Hill was hired by The Canadian Press, Canada's national news agency, where he began as a Junior Hockey Editorial Assistant and also laid out agate pages for newspapers including The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Hamilton Spectator and Kitchener-Waterloo Record.
In 2021, he was on the ground at the Tokyo Olympics, providing coverage for volleyball,[2][3] cycling,[4] triathlon,[5] golf,[6] weight-lifting,[7] sailing,[8] and taekwondo.[9]
He covered the Beijing Olympics in the winter of 2022 in Zhangjiakou, China, writing about men's single moguls silver medalist Mikaël Kingsbury.[10]
He has been a guest on CBC's The Current radio program many times, discussing LIV Golf, a golf league funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund[11], and Nick Taylor's win at the Canadian Open[12], both in 2023, and match fixing in sports[13] in 2024.
He has written extensively[14] about the Haudenosaunee Nationals Men's Lacrosse Team's struggle for passport recognition[15] and inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics[16] in Los Angeles, California.
In 2026, Chidley-Hill began reporting on Canada's first WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo.[17]
