JWA Oilfield Supplies Pty Ltd, trading as JWA Composite Matting, is an Australian supplier of composite ground-protection and access matting, based in Brendale, Queensland. The company was incorporated in November 2003 and its products are used in the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors for temporary access roads, ground support, and sediment control.[1][2] Its composite matting is positioned as a reusable alternative to crushed rock and plywood for temporary hardstand surfaces.[2]
Products
[edit]The company's core range consists of interlocking composite ground-protection mats, used to distribute vehicle and equipment loads over weak ground and to limit ground disturbance and remediation work at temporary work sites.[2] It distributes the FODS trackout-control matting system, an entrance matting system designed to reduce the carry of mud and foreign object debris onto roads and airfields, for which the company received an Engineers Australia Environmental Excellence Award in 2020. In 2020, JWA entered its Dura-Base composite matting and a haul-road ground-access product into the BHP Supplier Innovation Programme, a safety-innovation initiative run by miner BHP with the industry body Austmine.[3][4][5]
In 2021 the company announced it would offer the Flamingo concentrated solar distiller, a solar-thermal unit for treating produced water and mining wastewater, with collaborative partners, for installation at customer sites in south-west Queensland.[6][7] The technology was shortlisted as one of three finalists for the Resource Industry Network's "Out of the Box" innovation award.[7]
Government and defence contracts
[edit]JWA has been a registered supplier on Australian government procurement panels.[8] In March 2026 the Department of Defence awarded JWA Oilfield Supplies a A$3.8 million contract for "Airfield Matting and Equipment" under AusTender contract notice CN4226661; the notice records the procurement as a limited tender on the basis of supply by a particular business.[9] Australian media reported that the Royal Australian Air Force's Dura-Base composite matting, trialled in 2024 and adopted from 2025 as an alternative to AM2 aluminium matting, is imported by Babcock Australasia with JWA acting as its in-country agent.[10][11]
Recognition
[edit]In 2020 the company's FODS trackout-control matting was listed among the recipients of an Engineers Australia Environmental Excellence Award, in the innovation, contribution and education category.[4][5] Its solar wastewater-treatment technology was a finalist for the Resource Industry Network's "Out of the Box" award in 2021.[7][6] The company is listed as an industry partner of a CSIRO Next Generation Graduates Program collaboration between James Cook University and Griffith University on disaster-resilient infrastructure in Queensland.[12]
