Hydrangenol is a dihydroisocoumarin. It can be found in Hydrangea macrophylla, as well as its 8-O-glucoside.[1] (−)-Hydrangenol 4′-O-glucoside[2] and (+)-hydrangenol 4′-O-glucoside[3] can be found in Hydrangeae Dulcis Folium, the processed leaves of H. macrophylla var. thunbergii. It has been shown to suppress production of several inflammatory signalling molecules including MMP-1, MMP-3, COX-2 and IL-6.[4]
