Hugo Benitez (born January 20, 2001) is a French professional basketball player for Bàsquet Manresa of the Liga ACB and the EuroCup. Standing at a height of 1.92 m (6 ft 3+1⁄2 in), Benitez plays as a point guard. He has also represented the French national team internationally.
Early life and youth career
[edit]Benitez grew up in Toulouges, a suburb near Perpignan in the Roussillon region. He started playing basketball in the youth ranks of USA Toulouges. In 2016, Benitez joined JL Bourg's academy.[1]
Professional career
[edit]JL Bourg (2019–2025)
[edit]In 2017, Benitez joined Bourg's U18 team. He made his professional debut with Bourg's senior team during the 2019–20 Pro A season.[2][3] In April 2020, he signed his first professional contract, a three-season deal with JL Bourg of the LNB Élite.[4] In March 2023, Benitez signed a contract extension for three more seasons with Bourg.[5]
Bàsquet Manresa (2025–present)
[edit]On June 14, 2025, Benitez signed with Bàsquet Manresa of the Liga ACB and the EuroCup, signing a three-season deal.[6][7] On September 21, 2025, Benitez helped Manresa win the 2025 edition of the Lliga Catalana de Bàsquet, beating Joventut in the finals. He was also selected as the Finals MVP.[8] He would be sidelined for most of the 2025–26 season due to injury.[9][10]
National team career
[edit]Benitez has represented the youth ranks of the French national team internationally, playing in the 2021 FIBA U20 European Challengers with the France men's national under-20 basketball team.[11] He made his debut with the senior French national team in February 2022, in a game against Portugal during the 2023 World Cup qualifiers.[12]
