Vida (stylised VIDA and marketed as "VIDA, powered by Hero") is the electric mobility brand of the Indian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. Launched in October 2022 with the V1 electric scooter, Vida has since expanded into a range of models, including the V2 and VX2 scooters and the DIRT.E K3 youth-focused electric off-roader. In the January-August 2026 period, Vida was India's fourth-largest electric two-wheeler brand by retail sales, with an 11 percent market share.[1]
History
[edit]Launch and V1 (2022)
[edit]Hero MotoCorp entered the electric two-wheeler market on 7 October 2022 with the launch of the Vida V1, its first electric vehicle, introduced by chairman and CEO Pawan Munjal after delays the company attributed to supply-chain constraints.[2] The V1 was offered in two variants: the V1 Plus, priced at Rs 1.45 lakh, and the range-topping V1 Pro, priced at Rs 1.59 lakh (both ex-showroom).[2] The V1 Pro had a claimed IDC range of 165 km and a top speed of 80 km/h, while the V1 Plus offered a 143 km range at the same top speed; both variants could accelerate from 0-40 km/h in around 3.2 to 3.4 seconds and supported fast charging at a claimed rate of 1.2 km of range per minute.[2]
V2 (2024)
[edit]On 4 December 2024, days after Honda unveiled its rival Activa e and QC1 electric scooters, Hero introduced the Vida V2 range in three variants: V2 Lite (Rs 96,000), V2 Plus (Rs 1.15 lakh) and V2 Pro (Rs 1.35 lakh, all ex-showroom Delhi).[3][4] The V2 Lite used a smaller 2.2 kWh battery with a claimed 94 km range and a 69 km/h top speed, while the Plus and Pro carried 3.44 kWh and 3.94 kWh battery packs, offering 143 km and 165 km of claimed range and top speeds of 85 km/h and 90 km/h respectively.[3] The range-topping Pro used a swingarm-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 6 kW and 25 N⋅m of torque.[3] All V2 models used removable battery packs that could be charged at home, unlike the Activa e, and carried a five-year/50,000 km vehicle warranty and a three-year/30,000 km battery warranty; the range was positioned to compete with the Bajaj Chetak and the TVS iQube.[3][5][4]
VX2 and Battery-as-a-Service (2026)
[edit]Vida launched the VX2, its most affordable model to date, on 1 July 2026, timed to coincide with the 102nd birth anniversary of Hero MotoCorp founder Brijmohan Lall Munjal.[6] The VX2 was offered with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription option that lowered its upfront price, a pricing model Vida pioneered among Indian electric-scooter brands before it was later adopted by Ather Energy and TVS Motor Company.[6] Through 2026 the range expanded to include a long-range VX2 Plus with a 4.4 kWh combined battery (two removable 2.2 kWh packs), an Indian Driving Cycle (IDC)-certified range of 187 km and a price of Rs 1.43 lakh, launched in mid-July with deliveries beginning by the end of that month, and a fixed-battery Go FB variant with a 3.1 kWh pack and direct-plug charging, launched later in July at Rs 1.13 lakh.[7][8][9] By July 2026, Hero said its dedicated fast-charging network for Vida had grown to more than 6,000 stations across India.[8] The VX2 Go and Plus, aided by the BaaS pricing model, became Vida's primary volume drivers through the rest of 2026.[1]
Brand refresh (2026)
[edit]On 1 July 2026, coinciding with the VX2 launch and the 103rd birth anniversary of Hero MotoCorp chairman emeritus Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Vida unveiled a new brand identity centred on a kinetic mark called "the VOOM", a term drawn from a lyric in the brand's advertising jingle "Vida Vaka Voom", composed by Amit Trivedi with lyrics by Creativeland Asia Group creative officer Azazul Haque.[10] The new geometric V-shaped logo is extracted from the left pillar of the Hero logo's "H". The refresh accompanied Vida's expansion from a single premium electric scooter into a wider portfolio that includes commuter scooters, the DIRT.E off-road range and a future-mobility platform called Novus.[11] To mark the launch, Vida set a record for the largest brand logo in the Asia Book of Records: a 35,292-square-foot design formed using a VX2, a DIRT.E K3, a Novus Nex 1 concept and a Hero XPulse motorcycle.[11]
International expansion
[edit]In July 2026, Vida entered its first market outside India, Nepal, through a distribution partnership with CG Motors, offering the VX2 Go and VX2 Plus scooters alongside the DIRT.E K3; the move built on Hero MotoCorp's existing presence in Nepal, where the parent company had sold conventional motorcycles since 2014.[12][13][14] Hero MotoCorp had earlier announced plans to launch Vida in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain by September 2025; those plans had been delayed as of mid-2026, and Hero's initial entry into Germany was carried out with its petrol-powered XPulse 200 4V motorcycle, with a Vida electric model yet to follow.[12]
Products
[edit]Electric scooters
[edit]The Vida V1, launched in 2022, was sold in Plus and Pro variants before being succeeded by the V2 range in December 2024, which added the entry-level Lite variant.[3] The VX2, launched in 2026, is Vida's current lineup and is sold across Go and Plus sub-families with multiple battery and charging configurations,[7][9] including the option to purchase under the BaaS subscription model.[6]
Off-road and future products
[edit]The Vida DIRT.E K3 is a youth-focused electric off-road two-wheeler with a three-size adaptive modular frame designed to be adjusted as a child grows, app-based parental controls and three selectable speed modes.[12]
At the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan in November 2025, Vida unveiled Novus, a line of future-mobility concepts comprising the Nex 1 personal mobility device, the Nex 2 self-balancing electric trike and the Nex 3 compact electric car.[15] Hero MotoCorp has since filed an Indian design patent for the Nex 2, which uses a tilting front suspension that lets it lean into corners; if it reaches production, Autocar India said it could become the first electric trike from a mass-market manufacturer to go on sale in India.[15] Hero MotoCorp has also said it plans to introduce Vida's first electric motorcycle in 2027, and has patented a design for an electric motorcycle codenamed VxZ, developed in collaboration with the American manufacturer Zero Motorcycles; the VxZ was reported to share its frame, motor and battery pack with the Zero Lompico, an upcoming Zero Motorcycles model, and the two could potentially be built at the same factory in India.[16]
Sales and market position
[edit]According to government Vahan vehicle-registration data, Vida's cumulative retail sales reached 300,458 units on 1 August 2026, up from a start in November 2022, when Vida opened its first experience centre.[6] The pace of sales increased over time: the first 100,000 units took about 33 months to sell, the next 100,000 took roughly seven months, and the most recent 100,000 took five months.[6] Vida's share of India's electric two-wheeler market rose from 4 percent in the 2024 calendar year to 11 percent in the 2026 calendar year to date, placing it fourth by volume behind TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy, and ahead of Ola Electric and Greaves Electric Mobility.[6] By September 2026, Vida operated more than 900 sales and service touchpoints across 415 cities, including over 700 dealers.[6]
In the January-August 2026 period specifically, Vida sold 148,069 units, a 151 percent year-on-year increase and the fastest growth rate among India's leading electric two-wheeler brands; in the same eight-month period it ranked fourth by volume behind TVS Motor Company (356,579 units), Bajaj Auto (305,226 units) and Ather Energy (229,099 units), with July 2026 its best-ever month at 22,989 units sold.[1] Together, the four leading brands accounted for 76 percent of all electric two-wheelers sold in India in the period.[1]
For the 2026 financial year, Hero MotoCorp reported Vida sales of around 150,000 units, contributing to the parent company widening its overall two-wheeler sales lead over Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.[17] As of August 2026, Hero said approximately 60 percent of Vida's product portfolio was certified under India's Production Linked Incentive scheme, with the entire range expected to qualify by December 2026; chief financial officer Vivek Anand said the certification would improve the electric business's profitability.[18] Vida's manufacturing capacity had doubled from 15,000 to nearly 30,000 units per month by August 2026 and was targeted to reach 45,000 units per month by the end of FY27, with demand at the time reported to be outpacing supply.[18]
Reception
[edit]Comparing the VX2 Plus 4.4 kWh against similarly sized rivals from TVS, Ather, Bajaj and River, Autocar India found it had the highest claimed IDC range (187 km) and, tied with the River Indie, the highest claimed top speed (90 km/h) in the group. All the rival scooters used fixed battery packs; the VX2 was the only one with removable batteries.[19]
