Alexis Alejandro Gotay Pérez (born June 22, 1985), known professionally as Gotay or Gotay "El Autentiko", is an American-born Puerto Rican singer, rapper, songwriter and record producer associated with reggaeton. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.[1] His releases include the studio albums El del Vibrato (2013), El Chamaquito de Ahora (2017), Autentik (2020) and C.A.N.T. (2021).
Early life
[edit]Gotay was born in Brooklyn to a Puerto Rican family and moved to Bayamón while growing up. After completing high school, he began studying engineering while becoming involved in Puerto Rico's urban music scene.[1]
Career
[edit]Early releases and El del Vibrato
[edit]Gotay became involved with Ñengo Flow and the Real G 4 Life music collective during the early part of his career.[1] His early projects included El Concepto and Gotay "El Autentiko" Mixtape, both released in 2011.[2][3]
In 2012, his collaboration with Ñengo Flow, "Te Hablé Claro", gained attention in Latin America and was followed by international touring.[1] That year, he released Imperio Nazza: Gotay Edition, a collaborative mixtape with producers Musicólogo & Menes.[4]
His debut studio album, El del Vibrato, was released through Autentik Music in October 2013.[5] The album included "El Reencuentro", produced by Mambo Kingz, and "Tú", produced by Alzule El Bioquímico.[1] During this period, Gotay also worked as a writer, producer and recording collaborator with performers including Farruko, J Álvarez, Nova & Jory, Guelo Star and Ñengo Flow.[1]
Later albums
[edit]Gotay released his second studio album, El Chamaquito de Ahora, on February 16, 2017. Its guest performers included Ñejo, Arcángel, Farruko and Nicky Jam.[6]
His third studio album, Autentik, was released in 2020 and included collaborations with performers such as Kevvo, Ele A El Dominio, Jon Z and Gigolo y La Exce.[7]
Gotay released his fourth studio album, C.A.N.T., on June 18, 2021 through Machete Music and UMG Recordings. The 14-track project included "Más de Ti" with Ozuna and Wisin, and "Bellaqueo" with Juanka.[8] Gotay also participated in the album's production.[9]
