Gordonibacter is a genus of Gram-positive, strictly anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria in the family Eggerthellaceae.[1] Members of the genus have been isolated from the human intestinal tract, and motility varies among species.[2][3][4]
Characteristics
[edit]The type strain of Gordonibacter pamelaeae was isolated from the colon of a patient with Crohn's disease. It is non-motile, whereas Gordonibacter urolithinfaciens and Gordonibacter faecis are motile.[2][3][4]
G. urolithinfaciens was originally isolated from human feces and can transform ellagic acid, a dietary polyphenol-derived compound, into urolithin metabolites.[3] G. faecis, which was also isolated from human feces, converts ellagic acid into urolithin C.[4]
Taxonomy
[edit]G. pamelaeae is the type species of Gordonibacter.[2] The generic name honours microbiologist Jeffrey I. Gordon and combines his surname with the Neo-Latin word bacter, meaning "rod".[1]
