Franklin Prestage (1830-1897) was a British-Indian railway engineer who made major contributions to the construction of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
Life
[edit]He was born in London, but lived the major part of his life in British India.[1] He was born in 1830 to Thomas Prestage and Augusta Wilson.[1] He was married to Eliza Cary and had eight children.[1] He died in 1897.[1]
Education
[edit]He trained as an engineer.[2]
Career
[edit]He was an agent of the Eastern Bengal Railway.[3] He also served as a member of the Legislative Council of Bengal.[3]
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
[edit]In 1878, Franklin Prestage proposed the construction of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.[4] He played a major role in its subsequent completion and realization.[4]
