Frank Adiele Eke (27 July 1931 – 4 January 2013) was a Nigerian medical doctor, traditional ruler, and politician. He served as the first Deputy Governor of Rivers State from 1979 to 1983 under Governor Melford Okilo during Nigeria's Second Republic. He later became the Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. ^[1]^[2]

Early Life and Education

Frank Adiele Eke was born on 27 July 1931 in Woji, in present-day Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. He attended Government College, Umuahia for his secondary education before studying medicine in the United Kingdom. He qualified as a medical doctor from the University of Glasgow and later earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Harvard University in 1972, becoming one of the earliest Ikwerre indigenes to study at the institution. ^[3]

Career

Frank Adiele Eke qualified as a medical doctor and practised medicine before entering public service and politics. In 1979, he was elected the first Deputy Governor of Rivers State, serving alongside Governor Melford Okilo during Nigeria's Second Republic until 1983. After leaving elective office, he became the Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo Kingdom, serving as the traditional ruler of the Evo people until his death in 2013.^[1]^[2]^[3]

Death

He died on 4 January 2013 after a short illness. Prior to his death, he was the paramount ruler of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor local government area.^[3] His full title was HRM. King Dr (Amb) Sir Frank Adiele Eke (Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo land).

Family

He was married to Evang. Beatrice Chiebonam Eke and had 6 children with her as follows: Leslie Eke, Graham Eke, Ada Eke, Ngozi Oyewole, Onyinye Unachukwu and Frank Eke.
