Felipe Santiago Matta Aguirre (28 September 1869 – 23 May 1938) was a Chilean politician and mining entrepreneur who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile.

A member of the Radical Party, he represented Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina from 1912 to 1915. During his term, he served as a member of the Permanent Commission of Foreign Relations.[1]

Matta was born in Copiapó on 28 September 1869, the son of Felipe Matta Goyenechea and María Aguirre Toro. Following the early death of his father, he was raised under the care of his uncle, Radical political leader Manuel Antonio Matta.

He completed his humanities studies at the Liceo de Copiapó and later moved to Santiago to study metallurgical engineering at the University of the State, later known as the University of Chile. He subsequently worked for more than eighteen years as a mining entrepreneur in the province of Atacama and other mining centres.

During the Chilean Civil War of 1891, Matta supported the constitutionalist cause and took part in military operations as an aide-de-camp at General Headquarters. After the conflict, he returned to his private business activities.

In 1894, he served as secretary of the Intendancy of Atacama. In 1910, he entered the Chilean diplomatic service as first secretary of the Chilean legation in Mexico and Cuba. He returned to Chile in 1911 to manage mining enterprises and, around 1914, served as manager of the Caylloma Mining Company. He also owned metallurgical enterprises in Copiapó.

Within the Radical Party, Matta served as president of the party organization in Copiapó. In 1906, he was a presidential elector for Copiapó in support of Pedro Montt.

Matta died in Santiago on 23 May 1938.
