Emile Ghantous is an American record producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles.[1] He formed the production duo The Insomniax with Erik Nelson. His songwriting credits include recordings by Charlie Wilson, JLS and Now United.[2][3]
Early life
[edit]Ghantous grew up in Peoria, Illinois. He began making beats and writing songs with friends in high school, then produced local artists at a friend's studio. He later moved to Chicago, where he attended Columbia College Chicago and partnered with Nelson.[2]
Career
[edit]Ghantous co-wrote and produced material for JoJo's The High Road (2006). He subsequently produced recordings for B5, Bobby V and Jon B..[4]
In 2011, he co-wrote and co-produced JLS's "Take a Chance on Me" with Nasri Atweh.[5] The single reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.[6] The following year, he worked on Prince Royce's Phase II and Pitbull's Global Warming.[4]
He contributed songwriting and production to Frankie J's Faith, Hope y Amor (2013), which was nominated for Best Latin Pop Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.[7][8]
Work with Charlie Wilson
[edit]Ghantous worked on Wilson's Just Charlie (2010) and Love, Charlie (2013).[4][9] Love, Charlie won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Album.[10]
He co-wrote Wilson's "I'm Blessed", featuring T.I., from In It to Win It (2017).[3] The song reached number one on both the Billboard Adult R&B Songs and Hot Gospel Songs charts in 2017.[11] In June 2018, Ghantous received an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Award for the song.[12]
Other recordings
[edit]Ghantous has also written songs for South Korean artists, including Itzy's "Want It?", NCT U's "Misfit", D.O.'s "I'm Fine" and Seulgi's "Anywhere but Home".[3]
For Now United, he co-wrote "Come Together" and "One Love",[3] and produced "By My Side" in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an interview with Pop-Culturalist, he said the vocals had been recorded using an iPhone microphone.[13] The group members sent him voice recordings from different locations, which he edited and mixed into the track.[14]
In 2025, he co-wrote, produced and mixed "Let Ya" by Autumn Paige and Flyana Boss.[15]
