Driver scoring

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To collect data for driver scoring telematic devices are used

Driver scoring is the process of evaluating a driver's performance by collecting and analyzing data related to their driving habits to create standardized driver profiles. It is considered one way to improve safety, as driver behaviour contributes to over 90 percent of road crashes.[1][2]

Recently, the focus changed from controlling good behavior and penalizing bad behavior, such as unsafe driving habits or fuel theft, as this approach worsened working conditions for drivers, who felt constantly monitored and mistrusted. [3]

Exact driver scoring algorithms may vary, but typically they evaluate parameters such as acceleration and braking events, speeding, engine RPM, and idling time. New technologies propose an artificial intelligence–based driver behaviour scoring framework that integrates in-vehicle telematics, GPS route data, and in-cab monitoring to improve safety performance and delivery efficiency in logistics operations.
