[edit]A hist merge from Brion Vibber should be accomplished. I couldn't work from that page because administrative protection was added to it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FloridaArmy (talk • contribs) 13:55, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
Moved from the article draft:
Dismissed or fired in 2026? Is there a difference?
Is Medoum a usable source? Can it be included as an external link? Her firing and career at Wikipedia are discussed here https://medium.com/@johnpearce650/she-was-wikipedias-first-employee-after-20-years-they-fired-her-dce90f9258f3
A note she wrote on her departure https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org/thread/TRCM57VX5TNE5JACRSIN3XFVDBUWTOVM/
Can this 2021 interview be used? https://blog.legoktm.com/2026/06/01/interview-with-brooke-vibber-2021.html

- Medium is a WP:BLOG, so as a source it fails WP:BLPSPS. As a WP:ELMAYBE #4, perhaps, I haven't read it.
- The 2021 interview may have some WP:ABOUTSELF use, but it doesn't help with WP:N.

- Hi I am the subject! Obviously I cannot edit this draft directly. :)
- A more suitable source for my end of employment with WMF may be this heise.de article or its German-language original (linked within the article), which itself cites my public notice on wikitech-l and one of Jake Orlowitz's blog posts.
- There was also an official Wikimedia announcement on "the diff" when I returned in 2011 after my first departure.
- Note that I changed my name in February 2024, so most older sources referring to me working on MediaWiki or for WMF will be under my previous name; search appropriately and remember MOS:DEADNAME in your writing. Thanks!
- I'm happy to help with looking up sources or fact-checking. brooke (talk) 15:50, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- Note -- ultimately I expect you're not going to find a ton of sources but what are you going to find will mostly verify that I worked at Wikimedia Foundation and did work on MediaWiki. I don't know if it's going to be full enough for a real article, but I leave that to y'all. ;) brooke (talk) 16:08, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- The heise.de certainly looks WP-better than any of the refs currently in the article. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:09, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- Btw, I learned that this person exists yesterday at User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Draft:Brooke_Vibber, and I don't know if WP:DEADNAME is an issue here or not. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:29, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
More notes
[edit]She is mentioned in the acknowledgments here. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:37, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- (sigh) Shall I submit the draft to the AfC on your behalf then? I don't need to await your further edits, do I? George Ho (talk) 23:41, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
