Member-elect
[edit]As there is no Republican running, Mukunda is the member-elect: "No Republicans filed to run, so he’ll bypass the November general election and be sworn in come January." In the run-up to the November general election, locals are likely to look up info about this district, so it would be nice to have an article in place by then.
July 2026
[edit]FYI, I have my own draft article for Amar Mukunda written at User:Y2hyaXM/sandbox/Amar Mukunda. I plan to publish this in November 2026, after the general election. Y2hyaXM (talk) 13:40, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oh cool! Is there any reason not to publish it now? He's the member-elect, so he's already notable. Sumana Harihareswara 13:57, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Legally speaking, Mukunda is not a member-elect until the general election is certified by the Maryland State Board of Elections in December. Maryland allows third-party candidates to file to run in the general election up until August 3, so there's still a chance he does not run unopposed. He could also still lose to a write-in candidate (but as far as I'm aware, no write-in candidate has ever won a seat in the General Assembly, so it'd be exceptionally rare if this happens, especially given that Mukunda won all but three precincts in the primary and the district leans so heavily Democratic). Y2hyaXM (talk) 14:24, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- I absolutely see your point about the timeline and about how there is still a distant chance that someone else could win this seat.
- Could we maybe revisit this in August, after the third-party candidate filing deadline? I figure that locals (especially the ones who are only middlingly aware of local politics and didn't realize Mukunda is unopposed) are likely to look up info about this district and about Mukunda in the run-up to the general election, and it would be nice for them to be able to find your article on Wikipedia during that period. And although he won't technically be the member-elect, I presume the "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage" part of WP:POLITICIAN would apply. Sumana Harihareswara 15:17, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, we can do that. Y2hyaXM (talk) 15:30, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Sumanah FYI, the Maryland Green Party and the Working Class Party of Maryland have finished their conventions and have nominated the candidates they're going to run in the 2026 elections. The Maryland Libertarian Party failed to qualify for ballot access this year, so I'm being a little bold and saying Mukunda will, in fact, run unopposed in the general election. Please let me know if you'd like to revisit this now, or if you'd still prefer to wait until August 3 in case any unaffiliated candidates file to run. Y2hyaXM (talk) 17:34, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Sulfurboy Could you please explain why you rejected this draft's re-submission? The comments about the page being AI-generated are about a previous version of the draft that's since been overwritten by a draft article I wrote earlier this month. Depending on your interpretation of WP:NPOL, he may be eligible for a page since he's running unopposed in the general election for a state legislative seat in Maryland. Y2hyaXM (talk) 22:17, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't say anything about AI? Further there is no interpretation of WP:NPOL that he passes. He has not assumed office. Just because he is running unopposed does not guarantee he will assume office. WP:CRYSTAL Sulfurboy (talk) 22:21, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Per WP:NPOL,
Politicians and judges who have held international, national, or (for countries with federal or similar systems of government) state/province-wide public office, or have been members of legislative bodies at those levels. This also applies to people who have been elected to such offices but have not yet assumed them.
- The "have not yet assumed them" part of this sentence is the crux of the argument for Mukunda's notability, but WP:CRYSTAL for sure negates that until he wins the general election. I will wait until November to publish the page. Also, I pointed out the AI comment in case you saw the comment during your review and rejected it for that reason. Regardless, thank you for your review and feedback! Y2hyaXM (talk) 22:27, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

- @~2026-40718-17 Would you happen to be the anonymous editor who submitted this page as a draft the first time? That anonymous editor declared a conflict of interest with the subject of this draft, and I've been trying to get Mukunda to respond to my follow-up email for weeks now. If he doesn't respond soon, the image used on this page will be deleted. Y2hyaXM (talk) 22:09, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Nope! I'm a different editor. I don't know how to prove it but I'm not from moco lol, I'm just interested in the MGA and was surprised that Mukunda didnt have a page yet, so I edited the draft that was here. ~2026-40718-17 (talk) 12:21, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. It seems Mukunda will not have a Wikipedia page until November, after Mukunda wins the general election. Y2hyaXM (talk) 12:23, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
