Yavuz Pullukcu is a Turkish documentary filmmaker, producer and cinematographer. His documentary work has focused on environmental issues, cultural heritage, archaeology and communities affected by ecological and social change.[1]
He is known for documentaries including Water Bedouins, Latmos, Circle and Cinema Rivoli.[2]
Career
[edit]Pullukcu worked as an assistant director on the 2010 documentary Toruk, produced by Erciyes University.[3]
In 2014, Pullukcu and Ömer Güneş directed Water Bedouins (Turkish: Su Bedevileri), a documentary about communities living in the marshlands of southern Iraq and the environmental and social consequences of water-related changes in the Tigris–Euphrates basin.[4]
Water Bedouins received first prize in the documentary category at the eighth ROFIFE film festival.[5] It was also named first runner-up at the 2017 Seattle Turkish Film Festival Shorts program.[6] The film was selected for the 2016 edition of Italy's Sedicicorto International Film Festival.[7]
Pullukcu later directed Latmos, a documentary about the natural and archaeological landscape of the Latmos Mountains in western Turkey and the effects of mining activity in the region.[8] The film received the Best Documentary award at the 4th Chennai International Short Film Festival in India.[9][10]
The documentary was also shown at public screenings and environmental events concerned with the preservation of the Latmos region.[11] Turkish news outlet T24 later referred to Pullukcu as a director known for a documentary that raised awareness of mining and environmental issues in Latmos.[12]
His later documentary work includes Circle and Cinema Rivoli.[13]
In 2025, Pullukcu directed Tourist, a documentary about Maria Sidenko, a Ukrainian woman who left Kherson after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and settled in Kuşadası, Turkey with her child. The documentary was screened at an event organized at the İstasyon Kuşadası Community Centre in February 2025.[14]
In 2025, he also began a documentary project examining prehistoric rock art in the Latmos Mountains and petroglyphs in Nevada's Valley of Fire in the United States.[15]
