YFull is a commercial bioinformatics analysis service and database specializing in Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) and targeted Y-DNA and mtDNA interpretation for genetic genealogy and population genetics.[1]

The platform is widely recognized in the genetic genealogy community for maintaining the YTree (paternal) and MTree (maternal) phylogenetic trees, which are dynamically updated using customer-uploaded NGS files as well as public ancient DNA dataset samples.[2]

YFull accepts raw sequencing data files, primarily BAM, CRAM, and VCF files, originating from Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) tests as well as targeted Y-DNA tests (such as Family Tree DNA's Big Y).[1]

  • Phylogenetic placement: Assignment of raw sequencing samples onto specific branches of the YTree and MTree.
  • SNP discovery: Identification of named single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and private novel variants specific to an individual lineage.

Independent researchers utilize YFull's tree topology and database as reference benchmarks for developing haplogroup assignment software (such as yallHap and Yleaf) and studying human Y-chromosome micro-evolution.[3][4]

YFull Finder (also known as Ajwla) is a third-party browser extension and helper tool developed under the Abkhaz DNA Project (Apsny Production Inc.).[5]

The extension is designed to overlay user-defined metadata onto the YFull tree interface. It enables genetic genealogists to locally display surname associations, regional origin details, and G25 coordinate data alongside YFull's phylogenetic tree branches, without altering the underlying bioinformatic calculations of the core platform.[5]
