Victor Delvin T. Mupunga (born 28 August 1999) is a Zimbabwean international rugby union player who plays as a loosehead prop for the French club US Bressane in the Championnat National and the Zimbabwe national rugby union team (the Sables). Standing at 1.81 metres and weighing 128 kg, he is widely regarded as one of the cornerstone scrummagers and most powerful ball-carriers in the Sables front-row pack.

Early life

[edit]

Mupunga was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. He completed his secondary school education at Churchill High School, a renowned developmental rugby hub in the country, where his physical frame and front-row capabilities quickly earned him prominence in the local youth rugby circuits.

Club career

[edit]

Mupunga began his senior club career playing domestic rugby in Zimbabwe for the local side Pitbulls RFC. Seeking top-tier professional growth, he relocated to Europe in 2021 to enter the French club rugby systems. He initially signed with seventh-tier amateur side US Pays de Gex Rugby before demonstrating rapid development.

In 2022, he completed a move to Fédérale 1 club CS Nuits-Saint-Georges, establishing himself as a premier first-choice prop over three highly successful domestic seasons. In April 2025, following his international achievements, Mupunga signed a high-profile two-year professional contract with third-tier Nationale division outfit Union Sportive Bressane (Bourg-en-Bresse) in Eastern France.[1]

International career

[edit]

Mupunga made his senior international test debut for the Zimbabwe Sables in 2022. He served as a foundational physical anchor for the front row during Zimbabwe's historic 2024 Rugby Africa Cup triumph. His performance in the set-pieces drew major attention from European scouts, subsequently securing his regular position in the 33-man national traveling roster managed by Head Coach Pieter Benade for high-performance international test windows, including the 2026 World Rugby Nations Cup series in the United States.[2][3]
