Valeska Jansen (born 9 January 1967 in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany)[citation needed][1] is a journalist based in Zürich, Switzerland, who writes about beauty, fashion, watches and jewellery, travel and lifestyle.[2] She works as a journalist for the Ringier titles Schweizer Illustrierte and Blick.[2][3] Since 2016 she has published a video blog on YouTube and Instagram.[4]
Training and fashion design
[edit]From 1987 to 1989 Jansen trained as a dressmaker at the private school Michaelshofen in Cologne.[citation needed] She then ran the studio of the fashion designer Claudia Carpendale in Cologne from 1989 to 1990, and from 1990 to 1992 trained as a fashion designer at Schloss Eller in Düsseldorf.[citation needed]
She worked as a fashion designer for Lakis GmbH in Leverkusen (1992–1993) and Weber Textil GmbH in Cologne (1993–1994), and from November 1994 to August 2000 for Escada in Munich.[citation needed]
Career
[edit]Early work (2004–2011)
[edit]Jansen's earliest bylined articles appeared in the magazine world of wellness in 2004 and 2005, covering watch brands such as Chopard, Rolex and Omega as well as beauty topics.[5][6] In 2007 and 2008 she wrote beauty, fashion, travel and watch features for the magazine Relax & Style, including pieces on the designer Kris Van Assche and on Mauritius and the Seychelles.[7][8]
From 2009 to 2011 she contributed beauty and fashion articles to the Swiss magazine Prestige, among them pieces on Leonardo Ferragamo and on the 2010 Giraglia Rolex Cup sailing race.[9][10] During the same period she wrote beauty and jewellery pages for Weltwoche Stil, a supplement of Die Weltwoche,[11] and in January 2009 she published a beauty article in Blick.[12]
WW Magazin (2022–2023)
[edit]In 2022 and 2023 Jansen was credited in the editorial staff of WW Magazin, the magazine of Die Weltwoche, for the perfumery and beauty section.[13] Her contributions included the "Lieblingsstücke" product pages and the report "Trend-Report Beauty: Haut mit Hirn" (issue 3/2023).[14]
Ringier (since 2025)
[edit]Jansen is a journalist at Schweizer Illustrierte and also writes for Blick.[2] For the Schweizer Illustrierte magazine Style she wrote a feature on the jewellery company paradis collections (September 2025).[15] Her 2026 articles in Blick cover fashion, beauty, wellness and lifestyle topics, including the 85th anniversary of the Swiss underwear maker Calida, the 80th anniversary of the bikini and celebrity outfits at the 2026 Oktoberfest.[3][16][17][18]
Other work
[edit]Her two-part article "Vom Strick zur Fessel" on the position of women in Japanese society, published in Women in Business, was among the entries in the text category of the 2015 Swiss Press Award.[19] In October 2021 Jansen interviewed Peter Schweikert, co-owner of the Geneva jeweller Rivoli.[20] She also leads the agency beautysecrets.agency.[2]
Video blog
[edit]In April 2016 Jansen started Valeska's Video Blog on YouTube, later also on Instagram, under the motto "Beauty has no age!". The channel publishes beauty trends, make-up tips, tutorials, backstage videos and interviews.[4][21]
Media appearances
[edit]On 23 January 2018 Jansen was the guest of the talk show Glogger Talk on the Swiss channel Star TV.[22]
