Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UZEX) - is a commodity exchange in Uzbekistan. It was registered by the Ministry of Justice in April 1994 and is headquartered in Tashkent. Its head office is located at 77 Bobur Street, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. UZEX has a multi-branch trading infrastructure, with branches in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Navoi, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Fergana and Khorezm regions.

History

The Uzbek Commodity Exchange UZEX was established in 1994 as part of the development of organized commodity trading in Uzbekistan. The exchange subsequently expanded its electronic trading infrastructure and introduced additional trading mechanisms.

On 4 March 2005, UZEX launched a foreign exchange trading platform to facilitate transactions involving highly liquid goods offered in freely convertible currencies.

In the 2010s, the exchange continued to develop electronic trading infrastructure. In 2018, UZEX was appointed an operator of an electronic public procurement portal in Uzbekistan.

Activities

UZEX organizes trading in exchange commodities through electronic and other organized trading mechanisms. Its commodity markets include petroleum products, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cotton fiber, mineral fertilizers, sugar, wheat flour, grain, construction materials and agricultural products, among other goods.

The exchange provides trading infrastructure for domestic and foreign participants. According to UZEX, exchange trading is conducted under established rules and is based on the interaction of supply and demand.

Electronic trading

Electronic trading is a central part of UZEX's trading infrastructure. The exchange operates electronic platforms for exchange trading, B2B transactions and other forms of organized trading. It also operates electronic auction and public e-procurement systems.

In 2020, UZEX introduced an electronic tender and competitive selection trading system, expanding its digital services for organized transactions.

Public procurement

UZEX operates electronic infrastructure used for public procurement in Uzbekistan. Its role as an operator of a public procurement portal was reported in 2018.

Uzex Agro

UZEX has developed Uzex Agro, a trading platform focused on agricultural products. The platform was reported in Uzbek media in 2024 in connection with the development of electronic trading in agricultural products.

International cooperation

UZEX cooperates with international exchanges, financial institutions and other organizations on the development of commodity trading and related financial-market infrastructure.

In 2025 and 2026, UZEX's cooperation with international financial and exchange organizations, including CME Group and Phillip Capital, was reported in Uzbek and international business media.

Corporate governance and development

UZEX operates as a joint-stock company. Its corporate structure includes the central administration, territorial branches and affiliated companies. The exchange has also undertaken initiatives related to corporate governance and the development of its trading infrastructure.

UZEX GLOBAL

UZEX has developed UZEX GLOBAL, an international-oriented joint venture established to expand the exchange's access to international financial and commodity markets. The project has involved cooperation with Phillip Capital and has included work related to derivatives and other financial instruments.

UZEX's activities have been covered by Uzbek and international media outlets. UZREPORT TV has broadcast material about UZEX and developments in the exchange market. On 30 October 2020, the UZREPORT TV YouTube channel published a video titled “UZEX news on UZREPORT TV.”
