Unity Bank is a community bank headquartered in Clinton, New Jersey. It is the principal banking subsidiary of Unity Bancorp, Inc., a publicly traded bank holding company listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol UNTY. As of 2025, the bank operated twenty-two branch offices in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.[1][2]

History

[edit]

Unity Bank commenced operations on September 13, 1991. Unity Bancorp, Inc. became the bank holding company on December 1, 1994.[3][4]

According to a 2016 New Jersey Business Magazine report published during the company's 25th year in business, the institution originally operated as First Community Bank, the current Clinton headquarters building dates to 1996, and the bank adopted the Unity Bank name in 1999.[5]

By the mid-2010s, the bank had expanded into Pennsylvania. Unity's 2015 annual report referenced a branch in Forks Township, and its 2021 annual report showed Pennsylvania branches in Bethlehem and Forks Township.[6][7]

Operations

[edit]

Unity's SEC filings describe the business as a traditional, community-oriented commercial banking business serving retail, corporate, and small-business customers. Its branch network serves communities in New Jersey and Northampton County, Pennsylvania.[3]

Unity Bancorp's 2026 proxy statement identifies James A. Hughes as Chief Executive Officer and George Boyan as President of the Company and Bank, effective January 1, 2026.[8]

Notable developments

[edit]

In 2022 and 2023, independent business publications reported on Unity's expansion into additional New Jersey markets, including Lakewood in Ocean County, Fort Lee in Bergen County, and Parsippany-Troy Hills in Morris County.[9][10][11][12]

In 2023, ROI-NJ reported that Unity Bank was named to the ICBA Best-Performing Banks 2023 list.[13]

In June 2025, MonitorDaily reported that Unity Bank opened a new branch in Madison, New Jersey, bringing its total number of branches to 22.[2]
