The USS PC-1251 (now USS Ukiah) was a US Navy patrol craft that fought on the side of the Allies in World War II. Its purpose was similar to PC-461 class crafts; counter the German submarine threat and protect allied shipping into Europe.[1] Commissioned in early 1943, she first served in the Atlantic and Caribbean, escorting convoys and conducting antisubmarine patrols along vital routes in the Gulf of Mexico and the US East Coast as the Battle of the Atlantic reached its peak. In mid-1944, she was reassigned to the Pacific, where she crossed the Panama Canal, screened convoys and guarded US Navy anchorages. PC-1251 held a direct role in the Palau Islands campaign, serving as a control vessel during the Angaur landings and protecting transport areas off Peleliu from submarine attacks. After WW2, the ship was reclassified, later re-named USS Ukiah, and was decommissioned on 3 August, 1946.[2][3]
