Trey Ellis George (born 24 May 2006) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for League of Ireland Premier Division club Sligo Rovers on loan from EFL Championship club Cardiff City.

Career

[edit]

George grew up in Merthyr Tydfil and is a product of the Cardiff City academy, having joined the club at the age of eight.[2] He progressed through the club’s under-18 and under-21 sides before signing his first professional contract with Cardiff City in July 2024.[3] On 12 June 2025, Cardiff City confirmed that they had activated an option to extend his contract with the club.[4] He made his senior Cardiff debut on 11 November 2025 in the 3–1 EFL Trophy win against Arsenal U21 playing the full 90 minutes; whilst also netting his maiden goal in professional football in the process.[5][6] During the 2025–26 season, George went onto make one more appearance in the EFL Trophy, which came in a 5–1 defeat against AFC Wimbledon at the Cardiff City Stadium.[7][8] On 20 May 2026, he was offered a new deal by Cardiff City,[9][10] on 29 June 2026, George signed the deal which The Bluebirds offered him with the contract being of an undisclosed length.[11]

On 30 July 2026, George joined League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers, on loan until the end of the 2026 season, a move which reunited him with Darren Purse - who was his manager at Cardiff City U21 level.[12][13][14] He made his debut for Sligo Rovers on 31 July 2026 in the League of Ireland Premier Division 1-1 draw against Dundalk.[15][16][17]

International career

[edit]

George was capped for Wales at several youth levels from under-16s,[18] and made his under-19s début against Belgium in March 2024,[19] having been called up for the first time on 12 March 2024.[20][21]
