  • Comment: Some significant coverage about Francisco, but not about Bowman himself, who appears only to be notable for his ancestral association with Francisco, and his efforts to publicise this (so, I think, WP:NOTINHERIT applies). Paul W (talk) 14:38, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

Travis Bowman speaking at a commemoration ceremony

Travis Bowman (born February 23, 1973) is an American author, historical interpreter, entrepreneur, and film producer known for his work preserving and promoting the legacy of Peter Francisco, a Portuguese-born soldier of the American Revolutionary War and Bowman's seventh-generation ancestor.[1]

Work on Peter Francisco

[edit]

Bowman began publicly interpreting the life of Peter Francisco by 2008. In March of that year, the Greensboro News & Record profiled him as he prepared to portray Francisco during the 227th anniversary observance of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.[1] In 2010, he appeared on Colonial Williamsburg's Past & Present podcast to discuss Francisco.[2] In November 2011, he appeared on NBC Charlotte's Charlotte Today in costume as Francisco. In March 2026, Bowman organized the Peter Francisco 250: An American Commemoration ceremony in partnership with the City of Greensboro, serving as master of ceremonies at the event held at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.[3] The event's keynote speakers included North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, North Carolina Chief Justice Paul Martin Newby, North Carolina Senator Ted Budd, and Virginia Senator Ryan McDougle.[4]

Author and documentary work

[edit]

In 2009, Bowman published Hercules of the Revolution, a historical novel based on Francisco's life.[5] He later produced The Peter Francisco Story, a documentary about Francisco broadcast on multiple television and streaming networks.[citation needed]

By 2013, Bowman's efforts had attracted media attention in Portugal. Correio da Manhã reported on Bowman as a descendant of Francisco working to bring the Revolutionary War soldier's story to the screen.[6]

LUSO

[edit]

Bowman developed a screen project under the title LUSO, following Francisco's life from his childhood in the Azores through his service in the American Revolution. In 2019, the project received coverage from Portuguese media following reporting by Agência Lusa, carried by outlets including RTP and SAPO.[7] Actor Brian Patrick Wade later joined the project.

In 2023, Bowman and Wade produced LUSO, a short film. In 2025, Cardinal News reported on plans for a nine-episode historical miniseries.[8] In 2026, North Carolina media reported on Bowman's continued efforts to develop and finance the series.[9][10]

Environmental education

[edit]

Separate from his historical work, Bowman leads EnviroWorkshops, which organizes educational programs for environmental professionals, and EnviroClass, an online professional education platform covering topics including environmental remediation, PFAS, groundwater, and vapor intrusion.[11][12]

Personal life

[edit]

Bowman is married with two sons. He is a seventh-generation descendant of Peter Francisco through his great-grandmother Rosalie Francisco Barret, Peter Francisco's great-granddaughter. Like Francisco, Bowman stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, a detail noted in media coverage.[1]
