Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass (Chinese: 猫和老鼠:星盘奇缘), (released as Tom and Jerry and The Forbidden Compass in the United States and Canada) is a 2025 Chinese computer animated fantasy comedy film produced by China Film Co., Ltd., Warner Bros. Pictures, and Origin Animation. Written and directed by Gang Zhang, it is the first fully computer-animated feature-length film of the Tom and Jerry franchise. the English-language dub voice cast features Eric Bauza, Ben Diskin, Janice Kawaye, A.J. Beckles, Travis Willingham, Maria Bamford and Roger Craig Smith.
The film premiered at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival on June 21, 2025, and was released in China on August 9. It is scheduled to be released in the United States by Viva Pictures on September 9, 2026. the film's final work for Tom and Jerry involved with Ted Turner who passed on June 6, 2026.

During a chase in a museum, Tom and Jerry accidentally activate a magical compass that transports them to another world. On their journey home, they meet a group of new companions and become embroiled in a conflict against mysterious forces.[3]

Production
[edit]In February 2025, the film was approved for production and filed by China Film Co., Ltd. and Warner Bros. Pictures, with Zhang Gang attached as the screenwriter.[5] On May 31, it was selected to compete in the animation category of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival for the Golden Goblet.[6] On June 17, director Zhang Gang revealed in a Weibo post that production had wrapped on the film after five years of work.[7] The film was produced as part of the celebrations for the 85th anniversary of Tom and Jerry.[8] the English dub originally voicing from Miya Kodama, Brent Mukai, Andy Grace. Andrew Kishino, Corey Yee, Kyle McCarley while later role by a background character in the U.S. dub, and replaced by Beckles, Kawaye, Willingham, Tong, Smith and the duo taken over by Bauza and Diskin.
Release and reception
[edit]Tom & Jerry: Forbidden Compass premiered at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival on June 21, 2025. The film premiered in Chinese theaters on August 9, 2025, followed by a digital release on October 3, 2025 in China only.[8] Viva Pictures acquired United States distribution rights for the film, which will premiere theatrically in the US on September 9, 2026[9]
Box office
[edit]At the Chinese box office, the film grossed $1.18 million on its opening day and about $1.97 million for its first weekend. In other territories, it grossed an additional $182,661 upon the film's release in Spain on October 24, 2025.[10] So far, the film has grossed $4,514,327 worldwide.[2]

Critics lauded the decision to blend the franchise's traditional slapstick with elements of Chinese mythology and culture. The film's ambitious scale was frequently cited, with the Chinese culture-focused site Newhanfu hailing it as a "meticulously crafted cinematic event poised to reignite fond memories while delivering a fresh, visually spectacular experience for the entire family."[11]
