The TikTok Awards are a series of national and regional awards ceremonies organised by TikTok to recognise creators, artists, content and trends associated with the platform. The awards are staged separately in different markets, with individual editions using their own categories and selection systems. By the launch of the first United States edition in 2025, TikTok Awards ceremonies had previously been held in 21 other countries.[1]
Awards presented across the different editions have recognised creators working in entertainment, music, food, fashion and beauty, education, sport, gaming and other fields. Some editions also present awards for individual videos, songs, businesses and social-impact initiatives.
History
[edit]One of the early documented editions of the awards was TikTok Awards Vietnam 2020, held at White Palace Phạm Văn Đồng in Ho Chi Minh City on 27 December 2020. The ceremony presented 11 award categories recognising creators, content, trends, campaigns, artists and media organisations.[2]
TikTok Awards Indonesia 2020 was held on 30 January 2021 and recognised Indonesian creators for content produced during the previous year. Fourteen awards were presented, comprising six categories decided by public vote and eight selected by judges.[3]
The first TikTok Awards Philippines was held on 4 July 2021 under the theme "Ipakita Mo". Nominees were selected through voting by TikTok users, and the ceremony recognised creators and personalities active on the platform.[4]
Brazil launched its TikTok Awards in December 2021. The inaugural Brazilian ceremony recognised creators, videos, music and trends from the country's TikTok community.[5]
TikTok Awards Japan was held on 6 December 2022, combining awards for creators with recognition of trends that had become prominent on the Japanese platform during the year.[6]
The awards continued to expand into additional markets. TikTok Awards Malaysia debuted in 2023, while Australia and New Zealand held their first TikTok Awards under that name in Sydney later that year.[7][8]
South Korea held its first domestic TikTok Awards on 15 November 2024 at the Grand Peace Palace of Kyung Hee University in Seoul.[9]
The inaugural TikTok Awards UK & Ireland was held in London on 3 December 2024. Nearly three million votes were cast for the awards, which recognised creators across entertainment, food, sport, fashion, beauty and other fields.[10]
The first TikTok Awards in the United States was held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on 18 December 2025. The ceremony was streamed on TikTok and Tubi and followed earlier TikTok Awards ceremonies held in 21 other countries.[1]
Format and selection
[edit]The structure and selection process of the TikTok Awards vary between markets. Public voting is used in a number of editions, while others combine audience participation with judging panels or platform-based performance data.
At TikTok Awards Indonesia 2020, six of the 14 categories were determined by public vote and eight were selected by a judging panel.[3]
TikTok Awards Malaysia 2024 was divided into People's Choice and Judges' Pick segments. People's Choice winners were selected through audience voting, while an executive panel assessed the Judges' Pick categories.[11]
In Japan, the 2025 edition contained five judged categories and seven categories decided through public voting. The judged categories considered factors including uploads, views, likes and other platform data.[12]
The 2024 South Korean edition also incorporated advance fan voting into its selection process.[13]
The TikTok Awards UK & Ireland are primarily decided through voting by the TikTok community. The 2025 edition received more than 4.8 million votes across its categories.[14]
Academic research
[edit]Several academic studies have used recipients of the TikTok Awards Indonesia as case studies in research on TikTok content and creator practices. Jalinur and Laksmi examined the parenting-education account of Rensia Sanvira, a recipient at the 2020 Indonesian edition, in a study of TikTok as a medium for collective memory and information dissemination.[15]
Agisna and Mahadian conducted a quantitative content analysis of @fadlanholao, a Best of Comedy recipient at TikTok Awards Indonesia 2020. Their study examined four categories of humour technique—language, logic, identity and action—and found identity-based techniques to be the most frequently used in the analysed content.[16]
Hayu and Alexandrina studied the personal branding of educational creator Vina Muliana, who had received recognition at TikTok Awards Indonesia 2021. The study identified leadership, specialisation and reputation among the strongest elements of her personal branding.[17]

The U.S. edition presented awards across fields including entertainment, sport, fashion and beauty, education and social impact.[27]
Related programmes
[edit]The TikTok Awards are distinct from the TikTok Ad Awards, which recognise advertising campaigns, brands and agencies using the platform. TikTok introduced the Ad Awards in Southeast Asia in 2024 across Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.[28]
TikTok also operates separate programmes centred on livestreaming creators. In Japan, TikTok LIVE All Stars is organised specifically around creators active through TikTok LIVE and uses livestream-related rankings, gifts and audience voting.[29]
