The New Leaves are a contemporary folk band from Warrenpoint, County Down, Northern Ireland. Formed in 2022, the group consists of Declan McKay, Cian O'Hare, Paddy Goodfellow and Orla Rice.[1] McKay, the band's principal songwriter, was previously a member of the Glasgow-based indie rock band Young Aviators.[2]

History

[edit]

The band's debut album, A Sketch of Home, was released on 7 June 2024 through Corn Crake Records. Recorded at Narrow Water Studios and produced by Steve Fearnley, the album's songs are largely inspired by the area around Warrenpoint, the Mourne Mountains and Carlingford Lough.[3][4]

In 2024, A Sketch of Home peaked at number 10 on the Official Scottish Albums Chart and number 14 on the Official Independent Album Breakers Chart.[5] The single "Donaghaguy Reservoir" was subsequently played on BBC Radio Scotland's Another Country with Ricky Ross in September 2024.[6]

In January 2026, The New Leaves performed at Celtic Connections at Cottiers in Glasgow.[7] Later that year, the band released "Homesick Hymnal", accompanied by a music video filmed around Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains.[8]
