Suraj Kumar Chand, also known as Suraj Chand is an Indian Professional Squash (sport) Player.[2] In August 2026, he won the men's singles title at the 2026 FISU World University Championships Squash, becoming the first Indian to win the competition.[3] He was also selected for the Indin Squash team for the 2026 Asian Games.[4] [5]
Career
[edit]Suraj started playing squash since his school days and was the winner of National School Games.[6]
Chand joined the Professional Squash Association tour in 2021. In the 2023-24 season, he won his first two PSA titles, at the Hamdard Squashters Northern Slam[7] in New Delhi and the Poona Club Open[8] in Pune.
He represented India at the 2024 Asian Team Squash Championship in Dalian, China. Chand won the Bronze Medal in the men's singles at the 2024 FISU World University Championship Squash at Johannesburg South Africa representing Indian University Team[6]. In June 2026, Chand was selected as one of four men in India's squash squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.[4]
At the 2026 FISU World University Championships Squash in Mumbai, Chand reached the men's singles final and defeated Hungary's Benedek Takács in five games to win the title. He won the deciding game 11-4. The victory made him the first Indian men's singles champion[9] in the history of the event.[3]
