Suchith Rao is an American artificial intelligence and machine learning engineer and undergraduate researcher whose work focuses on machine learning and neurotechnology.
Education
[edit]Rao is an undergraduate computer science student at the University of Maryland, where he studies on the machine learning track.[1]
Research
[edit]Rao has taken part in research at the National Center for Adaptive Neurotechnologies (NCAN), where he is listed among the center's undergraduate students.[2] His work there has involved the analysis of electromyographic (EMG) and electrocorticographic (ECoG) data from reflex-conditioning studies in rats, using machine-learning methods.[citation needed] He has collaborated on this work with NCAN researchers Jonathan Carp and Theresa Vaughan.[citation needed]

[edit]Rao has participated in Bitcamp, a collegiate hackathon held annually at the University of Maryland. After winning the event's sustainability track in 2025, he returned in 2026 with a team that built a university-themed artificial-intelligence agent designed to encourage students to recycle, walk, or use public transit.[1]
Other work
[edit]Rao has worked as an artificial-intelligence and machine-learning engineering intern in industry.[citation needed] He is also a co-founder of Silara, an eye-tracking augmentative and alternative communication platform intended to help people with locked-in syndrome and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis communicate.[citation needed]
