Studio Kapel is an Israeli animation studio specializing in stop-motion, mixed-media, and 2D animation, founded by Liran Kapel.
Background
[edit]Before founding the studio, Liran Kapel co-directed the documentary animation Nyosha (2012), based on the story of Holocaust survivor Nomi Kapel.[1] The film was selected by the jury of the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival, held by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs, in its Animation Division,[2] won the Eli Gelfand Award for Animation at the 28th Haifa International Film Festival in 2012,[3] and won the Best Student Animated Film award at the Golden Kuker International Animation Film Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2013.[4] The film also screened at the Boston Jewish Film Festival in 2013.[5] Kapel also directed The Rope (2016), a Norwegian-funded short film created using salt, which screened at the Haifa International Film Festival and sevral other film festivals worldwide.[6][7]
History
[edit]The studio was established by Liran Kapel in 2014.[8] In 2022, Kapel's short film Trudie's Goose (2020) screened in-person during the 75th Cannes Film Festival as part of The American Pavilion's Emerging Filmmaker Showcase.[9]
Studio Kapel produces advertisements for TV and social media for brands and businesses. The studio has also created animated viedo clips for the "Israeli Childhood" segment of the Hop children's channel website,[10] Kapel also co directed an episode in the children's educational program "איזהו גיבור" ("Who is a Hero") on Kan's educational channel.[11]
