Sollex, Sollex Aktiebolag, is a Swedish razor blade company from Halmstad, founded in 1927 by Herman Falk^[1]. Today, the company distributes industrial knives and razor blades. Sollex is nowdays based in Malmö.

History

Sollex AB was founded as Sollex Rakbladsfabriken (Razer bladfactory) in Halmstad in 1927^[2]. The company was founded by Herman Falk. During the 1930s, the razor blade industry in Sweden flourished, with as many as 36 different razor blade manufacturers in operation.

During the 1940s, Sollex moved its production from Halmstad to Jönköping. The first adress in Jönköping was at Norrahammarsvägen 2 in the Haga ,^[3] ^[4] and later Sollex moved to Solbergagatan 8 in the Torpa.^[5] Sollex manufactured the razor blade brands Suverän, Sollex, and Skandinav.

During the 1950s, razor blade sales declined as Gillette was introduced in Sweden and eventually drove the whole Swedish razor blade industry out of business.^[6]

During the 1960s, Sollex shifted its focus from the consumer market to professional blades. This was due to Gillette's dominance of the swedish market for consumer razor blades.

During the 1990s, roofing contractors^[7] and trade publications for the paint retail sector were the key customer groups the company targeted. Sollex's focus on industrial blades has increased during the 2000s.
