Solanthrope (so-lan-thrope)
noun
1. A person who feels deeply disconnected from human behavior, values, and social norms; someone who prefers solitude over interaction with the general population.
2. An individual exhibiting independent, introspective, or neurodivergent tendencies, often frustrated by inconsistency, illogical rules, or hypocrisy in human systems.
3. (informal) A “lone wolf” mindset applied to the human species, characterized by self-reliance, keen observation, and selective engagement with others.
Etymology: From Latin sol (“alone”) + Greek anthropos (“human”), reflecting a solitary disposition in contrast to mainstream humanity.
Usage:
• “As a true solanthrope, she avoided crowded events and spent her weekends exploring the wilderness alone.”
• “His solanthropic tendencies made him brilliant at pattern recognition, but easily irritated by human error.”
