Snigdha Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi actress and model. She began her career in modelling in 2018. After working in billboard campaigns, fashion shows and international runway events, she made her feature film debut in director Raihan Rafi's Pressure Cooker (2026).[1][2][3][4][5]

Early life

[edit]

Snigdha Chowdhury was born in Rangpur, Bangladesh. From an early age she developed an interest in fashion and acting. Growing up in a conservative family, she initially pursued modelling without informing her family. After they became aware of her ambitions, they supported her decision, enabling her to move to Dhaka and pursue modelling and acting professionally.[2]

Career

[edit]

Chowdhury began her modelling career in 2018, appearing in billboard advertising campaigns, fashion shows and international runway events. She was later selected by filmmaker Raihan Rafi for his feature film Pressure Cooker. The film was released during Eid al-Fitr in 2026, with Chowdhury portraying one of the four principal female characters.[6][7][8][2]

Following the release of the film, Chowdhury stated in interviews that she intends to continue improving her acting skills while waiting for suitable opportunities in the Bangladeshi film industry.[9]

Film debut

[edit]

Chowdhury made her feature film debut in Raihan Rafi's Pressure Cooker, portraying the character Raka, a young woman active on social media whose seemingly independent online life contrasts with the restrictions imposed by her family and society. Chowdhury has said that aspects of the character reflected her own experience of growing up in a conservative environment.[2]

Pressure Cooker is a female-centred drama starring Shobnom Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, Maria Shanta and Snigdha Chowdhury. The film was selected as the opening film of the 2026 London Bengali Film Festival.[10]

2026 assault allegations

[edit]

In July 2026, Chowdhury filed a criminal case with Khilkhet Police Station in Dhaka against businessman and Ashiyan Group chairman Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan. She alleged that she had been pressured into marriage, unlawfully confined and physically assaulted. According to the complaint, another model accompanying her was also assaulted. The allegations received extensive media coverage in Bangladesh. Ashiyan Group denied the allegations and described them as baseless.[11][12][13][14][15][16]
