Technology
[edit]ShotTracker's technology combines three primary components: sensors embedded in basketballs, wearable sensors used by players, and receivers mounted around a basketball court. The system tracks the position of players and the ball in real time and generates statistical and positional data during practices and games.[2]
According to ESPN, the system is capable of producing more than 70 statistical measurements with sub-second latency. The technology has been used by coaches for in-game analysis, player development, and practice evaluation.[2]
Prior to the NCAA's approval of limited in-game use, the technology was deployed during the 2017 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship, where automated player and team statistics were generated throughout the tournament.[9]
Partnerships and adoption

In 2019, the Mountain West Conference announced a partnership with ShotTracker to install the company's tracking technology across conference basketball venues. ESPN reported that, as of 2019, the technology had been adopted by approximately 61 NCAA Division I basketball programs across 12 conferences.[2]
Later in 2019, ShotTracker collaborated with Vizrt and Astucemedia to integrate player-tracking data into ESPN's broadcast of the Hall of Fame Classic.[11]
In May 2021, the Big 12 Conference announced a multiyear partnership with ShotTracker to expand the use of the company's technology across conference basketball programs.[12]
