Comment: Hi there, thanks for submitting the draft for review. It would be helpful if your references were formatted as inline citations, with each citation coming directly after the piece of text it verifies. You can learn how to do this by following the tutorial at Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor. Please let me know if you have any questions. qcne (talk) 11:02, 1 October 2026 (UTC)

Shihab A. Romeed is a British dentist and academic specialising in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics and implant dentistry. His academic work has focused particularly on the biomechanics of dental prostheses and implants, including finite-element analysis, shortened dental arch therapy and zygomatic implants. He has also published research concerning dental management associated with head and neck radiotherapy.
Education
[edit]Romeed graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Aleppo in 1994.[citation needed] He subsequently completed postgraduate study in prosthodontics at the University of Damascus, including a postgraduate diploma and master's degree. He was awarded a PhD in restorative dentistry by the University of Manchester in 2002.[citation needed] His doctoral research examined the biomechanics of prosthetic designs used in shortened dental arch therapy.[citation needed]
During his postgraduate clinical career, Romeed undertook training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in hospitals in Essex, South Wales and North West England.[citation needed] He subsequently worked as a clinical teaching fellow in oral surgery and restorative dentistry at the University of Manchester School of Dentistry between 2007 and 2008.[citation needed]
Clinical and academic career
[edit]Romeed undertook specialist restorative dentistry training at King's College London, Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital. He subsequently held academic and clinical positions at the King's College London Dental Institute, including Lecturer and Honorary Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry. He also served as director of the MSc Advanced General Dental Practice programme at King's College London's Flexible Learning Unit.
He has worked as a consultant in restorative dentistry at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. His clinical work has included complex restorative rehabilitation and the dental management of patients with head and neck conditions. His professional profile identifies particular involvement in oral reconstruction for patients affected by head and neck cancer, hypodontia and trauma.
A 2022 study in the British Dental Journal, co-authored by Romeed, examined the timing of dental extractions before head and neck radiotherapy and the prevalence of osteoradionecrosis. The study was based on patients treated through head and neck services at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
Research
[edit]Romeed's published research has concentrated on the biomechanics of restorative and implant dentistry, particularly the application of finite-element analysis to dental and craniofacial structures.
Prosthodontic biomechanics
[edit]His early research examined the mechanical behaviour of cantilever fixed partial dentures used in shortened dental arch therapy. A 2004 study published in the European Journal of Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry used two-dimensional finite-element models to compare two- and three-unit cantilever fixed partial dentures.
His subsequent research included a three-dimensional finite-element study of occlusal forces and non-carious cervical lesions, published in the International Journal of Dentistry in 2012.
In 2013, Romeed, Raheel Malik and Stephen M. Dunne published a study in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery examining the effect of marginal bone loss on the biomechanics of single implant crowns. The study used finite-element models to investigate the effects of different levels of bone support and different loading conditions.
Romeed and Dunne also published a three-dimensional finite-element study of different post and luting systems for endodontically treated teeth in the Australian Dental Journal in 2013.
Zygomatic implants
[edit]Romeed has published research on the biomechanics of zygomatic implants used in the rehabilitation of severely resorbed maxillae and patients requiring maxillary reconstruction.
A 2014 study in the Journal of Oral Implantology, co-authored with Raheel Malik and Stephen M. Dunne, investigated the relationship between zygomatic bone support and implant biomechanics using three-dimensional finite-element analysis.
A further study examined extrasinus zygomatic implant placement in rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla. Published in the Journal of Oral Implantology, the research used three-dimensional finite-element analysis to assess a full-arch prosthesis supported by four zygomatic implants under occlusal loading.
The research has been associated with the use of zygomatic implants in the rehabilitation of severely atrophic maxillae and patients who have undergone maxillectomy.
Head and neck cancer and restorative dentistry
[edit]Romeed has contributed to research concerning the dental management of patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.
In a 2022 British Dental Journal study, Romeed, Rhys Ward and Ria Kanani investigated the timing of dental extractions before radiotherapy and the prevalence of osteoradionecrosis. The authors reported their findings from an audit of patients receiving head and neck radiotherapy and discussed the relationship between pre-radiotherapy dental management and subsequent complications.
Romeed has also published work relating to the management of complications associated with implant dentistry in patients undergoing oral reconstruction. In 2023, he co-authored an article in Dental Update concerning the accidental ingestion of an implant screwdriver during an oral reconstruction procedure and the management considerations for dentists undertaking implant treatment.
Professional registration
[edit]Romeed is registered as a dentist in the United Kingdom. The General Dental Council register records him under registration number 103841 and recognises specialist qualifications in areas including endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and restorative dentistry.
He has also held a dental licence in the US state of Minnesota. His King's College London profile records that he obtained American Dental Board certification and had been licensed in Minnesota since 2004.
London Dental Academy
[edit]Romeed is the director of the London Dental Academy, a postgraduate dental education organisation. The academy provides continuing professional development and practical training for dental professionals. Its published profile identifies Romeed as a consultant in restorative dentistry and describes his clinical and teaching interests in restorative and implant dentistry and oral reconstruction.
A 2023 article in Dental Update independently identified Romeed as director of the London Dental Academy while also identifying him as a consultant in restorative dentistry within the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Head and Neck Services at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
