Sh2-29 is an emission nebula that is part of the Sharpless catalog. It is located in the constellation Sagittarius, near the Lagoon Nebula, and is approximately 5,500 light-years away from Earth.
Characteristics

Within the nebula, the star-forming region NGC 6559 stands out. Despite its small size of only a few light-years, it showcases the potential effects that stars have on nebulae. The brightest stars are no more than 2 million years old (compared to the 4.5 billion years of the Sun) and emit strong radiation that heats dust and gas, while stellar winds erode the surrounding area. One example is a cavity excavated by a very energetic binary system and kept expanding, creating an accumulation of interstellar material that forms a reddish arc-shaped rim. The diffuse reddish light originates from the emission of hydrogen gas, while the shimmering blue light comes from reflection by dust, along with filamentary clumps of dust that block light in small dark nebulae. All this makes Sh2-29 a potential target for research on star formation.[2]
