Comment: Fails WP:NPOL ("Just being an ... unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability"). Sourcing mainly based upon Kane's political candidacy (Refs 1, 2, plus fleeting mentions in Refs 5 and 6 - likely derived from press releases or other party publicity so primary, not independent). Ref 3 is about his pilot's licence (irrelevant to NPOL); Ref 4 is a database listing. Lacks necessary WP:SIGCOV in published reliable independent secondary sources. Comment: Please note that standing as a candidate in a future election that the person has not already won is not grounds for a Wikipedia article. The inclusion criterion for politicians is holding a notable office, not just running for one, while unelected candidates get articles only if they already had preexisting notability for other reasons besides the candidacy. But this draft is failing to show that. Bearcat (talk) 20:25, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Samuel Isaiah Kane (born c. 1975) is an American trial lawyer and Republican politician based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A Florida transplant, Kane has practiced law in New Mexico for more than two decades and founded his own personal injury firm in 2004.[1][2] In 2026 he became the Republican nominee for Attorney General of New Mexico, challenging incumbent Democrat Raúl Torrez.[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Kane was born in Florida.[1] He earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and being inducted into the Order of the Coif.[3]
Legal career
[edit]After law school, Kane served as a federal law clerk to United States District Judge Robert C. Brack of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.[3][2] He opened his own law practice in Las Cruces in 2004 and has focused on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including motor-vehicle, trucking, aviation, and premises liability matters.[3][2] Kane has also worked as a contract public defender for the Law Offices of the Public Defender in Las Cruces.[2] He is admitted to practice law in New Mexico and Texas.[4]
Aviation and mission work
[edit]Kane is a licensed commercial pilot. A January 2021 feature in the Las Cruces Sun-News profiled his use of his pilot's license for humanitarian and faith-based mission trips to South America.[3]
2026 Attorney General campaign
[edit]Kane filed as a Republican candidate for Attorney General of New Mexico and ran unopposed in the June 2, 2026 Republican primary.[2][5] He was previously confirmed as the party's nominee at the Republican Party of New Mexico's pre-primary convention in Ruidoso in March 2026.[5][6]
In the general election he faces Raúl Torrez, the Democratic incumbent, in what the Albuquerque Journal characterized as pitting "a relative unknown in the political landscape against one of the most recognizable faces in the state's criminal justice world."[1] Only one Republican has been elected to the New Mexico attorney general's office since 1930.[1]
Platform
[edit]Kane has said that crime, particularly juvenile delinquency and the broader criminal justice system, would be his top priority if elected.[1] He has proposed helping judges with overloaded dockets, keeping repeat offenders incarcerated while releasing non-violent defendants, and addressing medical malpractice, rising utility costs, and environmental concerns.[1] Kane has said he would end the New Mexico Department of Justice's practice of joining multi-state lawsuits against the Trump administration and instead focus the office on issues "that pertain to New Mexicans."[1][2]
Campaign finance
[edit]According to late-September 2026 filings reported by the Albuquerque Journal, Kane's campaign had approximately $3,000 on hand compared with roughly $885,000 for Torrez.[1] Kane had received just over $5,000 in donations during the reporting period, primarily from individuals in southern New Mexico, and had taken out a $2,000 loan.[1]
