Salvatore Ruocco (born 7 January 1980) is an Italian actor.

Biography

Salvatore Ruocco was born in Naples on 7 January 1980 in the Rione Sanità district and grew up in Miano. He initially practiced boxing and competed in regional championships before turning to acting. He trained with the Liberascena Ensemble theatre company, directed by Renato Carpentieri and Lello Serao. He later attended a workshop led by Pitcho Womba Konga, a collaborator of Peter Brook. In 2025, he completed an intensive course in action performance at Cinecittà promoted by Sky UK and taught by Andrei Jdanov. Ruocco has appeared in several Italian and international film productions. Among his early screen appearances was Sotto la stessa luna directed by Carlo Luglio. He later appeared in Gomorra directed by Matteo Garrone. He collaborated with director Abel Ferrara in Napoli Napoli Napoli, presented out of competition at the 66th Venice International Film Festival. He also appeared in Gorbaciof directed by Stefano Incerti, presented at the 67th Venice International Film Festival.

In 2011, he portrayed a clan leader in Là-bas – Educazione criminale directed by Guido Lombardi, presented at the 68th Venice International Film Festival where the film received the Luigi De Laurentiis Award for Best Debut Film and the Audience Award in the International Critics' Week section. He later appeared in the short film Ciro directed by Sergio Panariello and in L'intervallo directed by Leonardo Di Costanzo, presented in competition at the 69th Venice International Film Festival.

In 2013, he appeared in Il ragioniere della mafia directed by Federico Rizzo, presented at the Montreal World Film Festival, and was among the main cast of Take Five directed by Guido Lombardi, presented at the Rome Film Festival. He was also cast by Abel Ferrara in the project Abel's Grandfather, for which initial filming began in Italy.

In 2014, he appeared in Pasolini directed by Abel Ferrara, starring Willem Dafoe, presented at the 71st Venice International Film Festival and at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In 2015, he appeared in an episode of the television series Rex, directed by the Manetti Bros.

In 2017, he directed the documentary The Stranger, presented at the London Documentary Film Festival.

In 2023, he appeared in Padre Pio directed by Abel Ferrara, presented at the Giornate degli Autori section of the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

In 2024, he appeared in The Equalizer 3 directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Denzel Washington.
