Early life and Education
Buchanan was born in 1976 in Bryan, Texas while his father Michael R. Buchanan attended Texas A&M University for a degree in Petroleum Engineering. His mother Collette Apgood Buchanan attended the University of Texas at Austin. His grandmother Bonnie Stanger also attended the University of Texas at Austin. As his father's work for Conoco moved him around frequently he ended up spending a large portion of his youth in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He attended the American School of Dubai [5] from 1982 through 1991. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1994 through 1998. His educational background includes B.A. studies in Computer Science and Photojournalism at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a real estate brokerage license in the State of Texas and is a Notary Public.
Career
In 1998, Buchanan started work at Capital Commercial Investments, Inc. He coordinates a wide variety of projects in a broad range of local, regional, and national commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition, development, construction, financing, leasing, management, and sale of large scale commercial real estate projects, and the formation, structuring, and planning of the business entities involved in these transactions. He has completed in excess of $3.0 billion dollars of real estate transactions during his career.
He has a proven track record in diverse areas of raising capital through alternative means including crowd funding. He successfully completed seed raises for tokenized offerings in commercial real estate along with platforms like CrowdStreet. [2] An efficient multi-tasker, he was responsible for joint ventures via syndication with an extensive network of High Net Worth, Ultra High Net Worth individuals and families, Single Family Offices and institutional clients.
His specialties includes institutional-quality private value -add deals combined with contrarian, capital accumulation of Class A & B Office/Industrial properties. In addition to structuring Mailbox Money "MBM" longer-term cash-flow investments in embedded Industrial or Office properties.
He coordinated development project entitlements with institutional clients like The Baupost Group [3] and Davidson Kempner Partners (DKP) [4]. CCI's team developed 50+ industrial build-to-suits in addition to speculative construction in high demand/constrained-supply markets.
He assisted in the End of Corporate Life re-development projects of single-tenant office properties being sold by Fortune 500 companies into multi-tenant or mixed-use projects.
Community Involvement
He was a City Councilman for the City of Sunset Valley [6] from 2006-2007. He was the head of the Community and Economic Development Committee. He coordinated ongoing committee efforts including: Public information access via website and newsletters; Providing support to the Police Department at events; Working with the business community to address concerns and provide support; Promoting wellness among Sunset Valley residents and staff.
Personal life
A native Texan, he has lived in the Austin Area since 1994 and has served in a leadership capacity of numerous professional and community service organizations.
