History

[edit]

Rio Health was established by Ankur Agrawal and Amit Ahuja. The operating company, Rapidsurge Innovations Private Limited, was incorporated in India in 2023. The Rio Health brand subsequently developed as an online pharmacy and healthcare delivery service in the Delhi NCR region. The company initially focused on the delivery of medicines and healthcare products through digital ordering. Its service subsequently adopted a quick commerce model using local fulfilment facilities, also known as dark stores, to serve customers in nearby areas. By September 2026, Rio Health was operating three dark stores in the Delhi NCR region and had announced plans to expand its network to more than 15 locations.[3][4]

Business and services

[edit]

Rio Health operates an online pharmacy service through which customers can order prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Its product categories also include personal-care products, baby-care products, nutraceuticals and Ayurvedic products. The company primarily uses WhatsApp as an ordering channel. Customers can submit medicine requirements or photographs of prescriptions through the service. Prescription medicines are dispensed against valid prescriptions issued by registered medical practitioners. Rio Health's delivery service operates through local fulfilment locations. In September 2026, the company said its delivery network served customers across Delhi NCR, with deliveries generally taking between 20 and 30 minutes.[5]

Technology

[edit]

Rio Health uses software systems to process orders, manage inventory and coordinate deliveries. The company's ordering system uses artificial intelligence to assist in processing medicine requests. Customers can submit medicine requirements through text or voice in Hindi, English or Hinglish, or upload a photograph of a prescription. The system identifies the requested products before the order is reviewed by a licensed pharmacist.[6]

The company also uses neighbourhood-level demand data to determine inventory requirements at individual fulfilment locations. Its technology operations include ordering, inventory and delivery management.[7]

Operations

[edit]

Rio Health's registered office is in Sector 67, Gurugram, Haryana. Its licensed dispensing pharmacy is located in Loni, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The company states that additional pharmacy premises operate under separate drug licences. The company's operations are subject to India's pharmaceutical and e-commerce regulations. Its terms state that prescription medicines, including medicines covered under Schedules H, H1 and X, are dispensed against valid prescriptions.[8]

Funding

[edit]

In September 2026, Rio Health raised US$4.5 million (₹43.08 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round led by Version One Ventures. Existing investors Xeed Ventures, Good Capital and Amplify Partners also participated in the round. The company said the financing would be used to expand its Delhi NCR network, increase the number of dark stores and develop the technology supporting its ordering, inventory and delivery operations. At the time of the funding announcement, the company reported processing more than 30,000 orders per month. Prior to the September 2026 financing, Rio Health had raised approximately ₹19.16 crore in earlier rounds. The September round brought reported cumulative funding to approximately ₹62.24 crore.[9][10]
