History
[edit]Plarium was founded in 2009 in Herzliya, Israel, by Avi Shalel, Gabi Shalel, Haim Turpiashvili, and Ilya Turpiashvili. The company initially focused on browser based social games distributed through platforms such as Facebook. Its early releases included Total Domination and Stormfall: Age of War, both of which were strategy games featuring multiplayer elements.[7] During the early 2010s, Plarium expanded its presence within the social gaming sector through the development of browser based strategy titles and licensed properties.[8]
In 2015, the company entered into a licensing agreement with 20th Century Fox to incorporate characters from the Alien vs. Predator franchise into its online game Soldiers Inc.[9]
In August 2017, Australian gaming company Aristocrat Leisure announced the acquisition of Plarium for US$500 million, together with additional earn out arrangements.[10] The transaction formed part of Aristocrat's strategy to expand its presence in the mobile gaming market.[11] Following the acquisition, Plarium continued operating under its existing brand and management structure.[12]
Later in 2017, Plarium acquired the San Francisco-based game developer Rumble Games, the studio behind Alliance: Heroes of the Spire.[13]
