Peter Bankov (born May 13, 1969) is a graphic designer, poster artist, publisher, and educator.[1] He is an elected member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and the founder of the graphic design magazine kAk and the Design Depot studio.[2]

Bankov's posters are held in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.[3]

Biography

Peter Bankov was born in 1969 in Minsk. In 1988, he graduated from the Minsk State Art College, specializing in sculpture. He then relocated to Moscow, where he graduated from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts in 1993, majoring in book design and illustration.[4]

In 1997, Bankov founded kAk, a long-running design periodical in the post-Soviet space, serving as its editor-in-chief. In the same year, he established Design Depot, a Moscow-based design firm.[2]

In 2010, Bankov relocated to Prague, Czech Republic, where he subsequently established the Prague-based Poster School.[5] In Prague, he launched his long-running "Poster Every Day" project, creating at least one unique artistic poster daily.[6]

Style and legacy

According to evaluations by the International Council of Design, Bankov's visual approach is categorized by an expressive graphic impact, experimental typography, and the prominent integration of collage techniques.[4] His practice actively operates at the intersection of commercial graphic design and fine arts.

His posters have been featured in international solo and group exhibitions at specialized institutions, including the Toyama Poster Museum (Japan), Lahti Poster Museum (Finland), and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich (Switzerland).[2]
