OpenEye is an American company providing cloud-managed and AI video surveillance software and products.

History

OpenEye (incorporated as PC Open Inc.), was founded in 1999 in Spokane, Washington, by Rick Sheppard.^[1] In 2001, OpenEye introduced its first digital video recorder at ISC East.^[2]

In 2016, OpenEye launched the cloud-managed video surveillance platform OpenEye Web Services (OWS).^[3]

DMP announced its integration with both OpenEye and Hikvision in DMP’s Virtual Keypad app in 2018.^[4] OpenEye announced a two-way integration with Brivo Security Suite in 2025.^[5]

Products

OpenEye Web Services (OWS): A cloud video surveillance platform with features such as live video security footage feeds, event alerts, search options, and reports.

Cloud Cameras: Cloud-managed video camera devices with built-in recorder and analytics processor.^[6]

OWS AI Analytics: A video analytics suite within OWS. Analytics include person and vehicle detection and recognition, line crossing, loitering detection, and object counting.^[7]

OWS AI Operational Analytics: A monitoring tool in OWS which uses AI to analyze camera snapshots and determine whether predefined visual conditions are met.

Acquisition

OpenEye was acquired in 2019 by physical security company Alarm.com (Nasdaq: ALRM) and is now an independently run subsidiary of Alarm.com. The majority-stake acquisition was announced on April 11, 2019.^[8]

Recognition

In 2006, OpenEye was recognized on the Inc. 500 fastest growing companies list.^[9]

Hanwha Techwin recognized OpenEye with the New STEP Partner of the Year award for their commitment to an open cloud platform.^[10]

At TEC 2021, OpenEye received the PSA MSSP Star Vendor Achievement Award.^[11]

The Journal of Business in partnership with Workforce Research Group named OpenEye one of the Best Places to Work in the Inland Northwest.^[12]

OpenEye was awarded the Cloud and SaaS Innovation Award for the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2025.^[13]
