Olu Aina OFR (born 24 October 1940) is a Nigerian scholar, administrator and education policy strategist from Otan-Ayegbaju, Osun State.[1] He is regarded as a pioneer of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Aina received his university education in the United States and the United Kingdom.[3] He holds a B.Sc. summa cum laude, an M.Sc., a Ph.D., and several professional qualifications in technical education management.[3]
Academic career
[edit]In 1977, Aina returned to Nigeria and joined Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.[1] He was a foundational member of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, where he contributed to the development of curriculum and administrative structures for TVET.[2]
As a researcher, he has authored 26 journal articles, presented over 120 papers at national and international conferences, and supervised more than 35 postgraduate theses.[4]
Public service and leadership
[edit]Aina served as the first Registrar and Chief Executive of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) from 1992 to 2002.[5]
In higher education governance, he was Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council at Igbinedion University (2002–2011),[1] Crown-Hill University (2016–2022),[1] and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.[6]
He was an Executive Full-Time Member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) from 2011 to 2015.[7]
In 2025 he was appointed Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC).[8][9][10][11]
Honours
[edit]He is a recipient of the Nigerian national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).[1]
