Oda Nobufusa (織田信房) was a Japanese samurai commander of the Sengoku period. He served as a military retainer to the Oda clan of Owari Province under Oda Nobuhide and subsequently under his successor, Oda Nobunaga.
Biography
[edit]Service under Oda Nobuhide
[edit]Nobufusa served as a senior vanguard warrior during the Oda clan's territorial campaigns in Mikawa Province against the rival Imagawa clan.
In 1542, Nobufusa participated in the First Battle of Azukizaka. Following the confrontation, he was recognized alongside six other commanders—including Oda Nobumitsu and Sassa Masatsugu—as one of the "Seven Spears of Azukizaka" (小豆坂の七本槍) for his distinguished performance in hand-to-hand combat.[1]
Service under Oda Nobunaga
[edit]Following the death of Oda Nobuhide, Nobufusa maintained his allegiance to Nobuhide's young heir, Oda Nobunaga, during the succession disputes that divided Owari Province.
In 1556, during the internal Oda conflict at the Battle of Inō, Nobufusa fought directly within Nobunaga's immediate division against the forces of Nobunaga's younger brother, Oda Nobuyuki. Primary records note that Nobufusa fought alongside senior officer Mori Yoshinari to hold the center line against the rebel forces under Hayashi Hidesada.[2][3]
