Obaid Mohammed Ali Al Taboor Al Nuaimi (Arabic: عبيد محمد علي الطابور النعيمي; 1947 – December 2025) was an Emirati educator and school administrator from Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. He worked in the educational sector of the United Arab Emirates for more than 37 years, including 29 years as principal of Ras Al Khaimah Secondary School.[1][2]
He was regarded as one of the long-serving educational figures in Ras Al Khaimah and among the longest-serving Emirati school principals in the emirate.[3]
Early life
[edit]Al Taboor was born in Ras Al Khaimah in 1947 and grew up during the expansion of modern education in the Trucial States before the establishment of the United Arab Emirates.[2]
Career
[edit]Al Taboor began his teaching career on 2 September 1972 as a geography teacher at Al Qassimiya School in Ras Al Khaimah.[2] He later served as vice principal of Musa bin Nusair School before becoming principal of Khalid bin Al Waleed School in Al Jazirah Al Hamra.[1]
He subsequently became principal of Ras Al Khaimah Secondary School, a position he held for 29 years.[2] During his career, he participated in educational conferences representing the United Arab Emirates and was involved in educational and administrative activities within Ras Al Khaimah.[1]
Al Taboor was also among the founders of the UAE Teachers Association.[1]
Honours and recognition
[edit]Al Taboor received recognition from Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for his contributions to education in Ras Al Khaimah.[2]
He was also honoured by several educational institutions and award programmes in the United Arab Emirates, including the Khalifa Award for Education and the Ras Al Khaimah Award for Educational Excellence.[1]
In 2014, he was honoured during a ceremony organised by Balat Al Shahada School and the Ras Al Khaimah Educational Zone as the longest-serving active Emirati school principal in the emirate.[4][3]
Personal life
[edit]Al Taboor was the paternal uncle of Emirati historian and researcher Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Taboor.[citation needed]
Death
[edit]Al Taboor died in December 2025 at the age of 77.[1]
Following his death, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, visited the family's condolence gathering in Ras Al Khaimah.[5]
Condolences were also offered by Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi and public figures in the emirate.[6]
Former students, educators, and members of the Ras Al Khaimah community attended his funeral and described him as one of the notable educational figures in the emirate.[1]
