OGONEK is the stage name of Bulgarian drum and bass DJ Valeri Sholevski.[1][2]
Career
[edit]In September 2002, the Bulgarian music magazine Ritam profiled Sholevski under the name Ogonek in a feature about independent electronic artists. The article discussed his drum and bass production methods, use of sampling and electronic processing, and his views on Bulgaria's independent electronic music scene.[3]
A September 2005 article in Tema Sport identified Valeri Sholevski and Ivan Shopov as Ogonek & Cooh. It reported that the duo had released singles through British and Austrian record labels and described them as contributors to Bulgaria's drum and bass scene.[4]
In a November 2005 interview in Intro Club & Shopping Guide, Sholevski stated that he had begun producing drum and bass in 1998 and later started working with Ivan Shopov under the joint name Ogonek & Cooh.[5]
A 2016 feature in the Bulgarian arts magazine VIJ! revisited Ogonek & Cooh and described them as participants in the movement that helped establish drum and bass culture in Bulgaria, recalling their performances in Sofia's underground clubs.[6]
A 2019 profile identified Sholevski as DJ Ogonek and discussed the origin of his stage name, his earlier musical projects and his involvement with the Bulgarian electronic music organisation HMSU.[7]
Under the name OGONEK, Sholevski composed the music for the Bulgarian science-fiction short film Sunless, which was presented in Sofia in 2013.[8]
He was also credited with music, sound recording and audio processing for the Bulgarian literary audio series До последен зъб.[9]
In July 2021, Sholevski appeared with singer Angie on Bulgarian National Television to discuss their music video Hide, their music and the drum and bass scene.[2]
In January 2025, the Bulgarian News Agency reported that Sholevski, known as DJ Ogonek, had been announced as a headliner at the New Wave electronic music festival in Colombia.[1]
