The Northwest computer museum is a computer museum located on the 4th floor of Leigh Spinners Mill in Leigh, Greater Manchester.[1][2]
History
[edit]The museum was founded by Joe Kay and officially opened in its current location on the June 3, 2023 by Professor Steve Furber, CBE.[3][4]
The museum actively encourages visitors to physically operate and use the working retro machines on display.[5]
Exhibits

The museum collection focuses on home and hobby computers from the late 70's, 80's and 90's but also includes game consoles and arcade machines.
Computers in the main room are laid out in chronological order from 1979 with the Commodore PET 2001, Apple ][ and Tandy TRS-80, extend through the BBC and Spectrum computers and into the 90's with the Commodore Amgia and Atari ST machines. [6]
It further extends through notable business machines such as the ACT Sirius, the first IBM PC's, Acorn and Apple machines.
There is also a range of games consoles on display from the Fairchild model F, Sega Megadrive to the Xbox360 and Sony Playstation 2 plus a small collection of vintage Arcade machines .[7]
Notable exhibits include an component level exact replica of an Apple-1 computer and an Apple Lisa.
Facilities
[edit]A Cafe is located inside the museum serving food and refreshments. Parking is available on site and serves all units within the mill and lifts are available to all floors.
