Nada Rajkumar, also known as Kumarakulasingam Nadarajah and Raj Kumar, is a Canadian Tamil broadcaster, radio presenter, author and media trainer. He has been involved in Tamil-language broadcasting in Canada for more than three decades.[1]
In 2018, the Guyana Chronicle identified Rajkumar as the founder-president and chief executive officer of East FM Radio in Toronto and reported on his broadcasting, journalism and international training activities.[1]
Early life and background
[edit]Rajkumar is of Sri Lankan Tamil origin and later settled in Canada. A 2018 profile in the Guyana Chronicle described him as a Tamil Sri Lankan by birth and reported that he had lived in Canada for several decades.[1]
He developed a career in Tamil-language broadcasting and journalism in Canada. According to the Guyana Chronicle, by 2018 he had accumulated more than 30 years of broadcasting experience.[1]
Career
[edit]Rajkumar has been involved in Tamil-language radio broadcasting in Canada for several decades. His broadcasting activities have included radio presentation, programming, station management and broadcaster training.[1]
Rajkumar has also been involved with East FM 102.7 in Toronto. In 2018, the Guyana Chronicle identified him as the founder-president and chief executive officer of East FM Radio.[1]
Broadcasting training and international activities
[edit]Rajkumar has conducted broadcasting workshops and training activities for radio presenters and broadcasters internationally. During a visit to Guyana in 2018, he expressed an interest in sharing his broadcasting experience with local radio professionals and stations.[1]
The Guyana Chronicle reported that Rajkumar had participated in radio broadcasting conferences and training activities internationally, including activities in South Africa and India.[1]
The newspaper also reported that he had been trained by broadcasters in Canada and had sought to share his broadcasting knowledge through international activities.[1]
Writing
[edit]Rajkumar is the author of the Tamil-language book Vaanoli Olibarappum Uththigalum (வானொலி ஒலிபரப்பும் உத்திகளும்), a work concerning radio broadcasting and presentation techniques.[2]
A published introduction to the book described its subjects as including the history of radio, the beginnings of Tamil radio broadcasting, broadcasting skills, technical fundamentals, presentation, programme production, news production, interview techniques, radio ethics, broadcasting challenges, current technology and the future of radio.[2]
The Guyana Chronicle had previously reported in 2018 that Rajkumar had written a book concerning radio journalism.[1]
Public speaking
[edit]In January 2024, Rajkumar participated in a seminar at the Department of Journalism and Communication at the University of Madras. The seminar concerned Tamil radio from an international perspective, and Rajkumar spoke to students about programme production, broadcasting technology, qualifications and employment opportunities in Canadian broadcasting.[3]
His international broadcasting activities have also included participation in conferences and training programmes. The Guyana Chronicle reported in 2018 that he had participated in broadcasting-related activities in countries including South Africa and India.[1]
Other activities
[edit]In addition to radio broadcasting and station management, Rajkumar has been involved in journalism and broadcaster training. The Guyana Chronicle reported that he had an interest in journalism and in sharing broadcasting expertise with radio professionals internationally.[1]
