Draft:Muhammad Hashim Samangani

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Comment: Wikipedia can't be used as a source, so effectively there is no source here. The draft also needs to be worded in a more neutral, encyclopedic, tone. ChrysGalley (talk) 08:15, 21 July 2026 (UTC)

Muhammad Hashim Samangani (Arabic: محمد ہاشم سمنگانی) also known as Maulana Buzurg, was a Sufi scholar of the Naqshbandi Tariqa, and the 35th Grandshaykh of the Naqshbandi-Saifi Sufi Golden Chain. He possessed mastery over the Maktubat (Letters) of Ahmad Sirhindi and the Masnavi of Rumi.

He is known for being the Murshid of Akhundzada Saif-ur-Rahman Mubarak, founder of the Saifia order

Biography

[edit]

Muhammad Hashim Samangani was born in the year 1349 AH (1931 AD) in the Ghaznigak area of the Samangan province in Afghanistan. He was fully accomplished in both exoteric (apparent) and esoteric (hidden) sciences. The father of Muhammad Hashim Samangani, Alhaj Wazir Bai, was the chief of his tribe, Alikhel.

Childhood Dreams

[edit]

At the age of 6, Muhammad Hashim Samangani saw a dream in which Prophet Muhammad said to him, "I will remain with you for forty years." Similarly, his parents and brother, Muhammad Shah Khan, narrate that at the age of twelve, he had another dream where he saw a vision of Prophet Muhammad. He saw a massive garden arranged with chairs, where numerous spiritual personalities were seated, presided over Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad Hashim Samangani, out of devotion, was kissing the hands and feet of Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad introduced him to Umar and asked what brought him to the garden. Muhammad Hashim Samangani replied, "I have a herd of sheep and goats, and I came to gather leaves for them to eat. But seeing you here, my heart and eyes are sacrificed for you, and I wish to enter your servitude." Hearing this, Prophet Muhammad asked Ali to bring his bag of leaves and filled it with fresh, green leaves. However, some space was still left in it. When Muhammad Hashim Samangani requested more, Prophet Muhammad said to him, "This much is sufficient for one person." After this dream, his body, and particularly his chest, began to vibrate and shake involuntarily. This physical vibration has generally become the hallmark and identity of the Saifia order during spiritual ecstasy (Wajd).

Education and Training

[edit]

Mawlana Hashim Samangani received his primary education from his parents from an Islamic scholar of his village, Maulana Abdul Mannan. For higher education, he travelled to premier seminaries in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan, namely Laghman and Nuristan. Additionally, he undertook several educational journeys to Peshawar in Pakistan and the Tagab District in Afghanistan. He left home in pursuit of knowledge at the age of twenty-five and mastered all prevailing sciences and arts in just one year and two months. He memorized 18 parts (Juz) of the Quran during Ramadan. He used to recite 25 to 26 pages of Sahih al-Bukhari daily. Once, while visiting the shrine of Maulana Sultan Muhammad Tagabi for a pilgrimage, he saw in a dream at night that all the knowledge of Maulana Sultan Muhammad had been bestowed upon him. Following this event, the doors of divine knowledge and spiritual insights were unlocked for him. He could complete the recitation of the Quran in just five hours and had recited the Quran from cover to cover more than 1,000 times. He also frequently observed the Saum-e-Dawoodi (Fast of David).

Dedication towards Prayer

[edit]

It was his regular practice to always keep a water vessel for Wudu, a copy of the Quran, and a prayer mat with him, whether traveling or at home. As soon as the time for prayer arrived, he would immediately perform fresh ablution, call the Adhan, and even if he was alone, he would deliver the Iqamah and offer his prayer. Furthermore, from the very beginning, it was his strict routine to never appear before non-Mahram women. If anyone ever came across his path, he would lower his gaze and avoid looking at them.

Allegiance and Khilafat

[edit]

He pledged allegiance and received spiritual instruction from Maulana Shah Rasul Taloqani. Through him, he attained authorization (Khilafat) in the Naqshbandiyya, Qadiriyya, Chishtiya, and Suhrawardiyya orders. When Shah Rasul Taloqani became old he told his other Salikeen (disciples) to be in the company of Muhammad Hashim Samangani. After Shah Rasul Taloqani's death Muhammad Hashim Samangani became the new Murshid for Akhundzada Saif-ur-Rahman Mubarak and the other Salikeen. Muhammad Hashim Samangani renewed the zikr for Akhundzada Saif-ur-Rahman Mubarak and started guiding him in his spiritual journey. After returning from the Hajj pilgrimage, his health began to decline. He traveled to Peshawar, Pakistan for medical treatment, where his illness grew severe during his final days.

Final days and Passing

[edit]

During his final days, he called for Akhundzada Saif-ur-Rahman Mubarak and instructed him to share the responsibilities of training other Salikeen. He passed away at the age of 42 on 9 Shawwal 1391 AH (November 28, 1971). He left behind 19 spiritual successors (Khulafa), including Akhundzada Saif-ur-Rahman Mubarak. His shrine is located in Pir Sabaq, Nowshera District, Pakistan.
