{{Infobox company
Motty AS is a Norwegian financial intermediary and loan broker with its registered office in Oslo. The company acts as an intermediary between private customers and banks and other financial institutions. Motty does not itself grant loans; it forwards customers' applications to cooperating financial institutions and enables applicants to compare the offers they receive.[1]
The services brokered through the company include consumer loans, debt refinancing, credit cards and loans secured against property.[1] In addition to Norwegian, Motty provides customer service in several other languages, including English, Polish, Lithuanian and Spanish.[2][3][4][5]
History
[edit]Motty describes its operations as a continuation of Telefinans, which began arranging consumer loans and refinancing for private individuals in 1985.[1] In 2018, Fredrikstad FK described Telefinans as a Fredrikstad-based loan brokerage established in 1985 and reported that the business was expanding into Finland.[6]
The current legal entity was incorporated on 5 May 2009 and registered in the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises on 23 May 2009.[7] It previously operated under the names Folkelånet Telefinans AS and Motty Telefinans AS before adopting the name Motty AS.[8]
The company's Finnish operations were conducted through Telefinans Finland Oy. The company stopped processing new applications in Finland and ceased operations there on 31 December 2024.[9]
In April 2026, Motty launched a national advertising campaign concerning consumer debt and refinancing. The launch also included a digital customer portal providing users with an overview of their financial situation and potentially relevant financial offers.[10]
Operations
[edit]Motty operates as an intermediary between individual borrowers and financial institutions. After receiving an application, the company may forward it to several cooperating banks. The bank, rather than Motty, makes the lending decision and determines the loan amount, interest rate and contractual terms.[1]
According to the company's multilingual websites, Motty provides assistance during the application and comparison process in Norwegian, English, Polish, Lithuanian and Spanish. Its Polish and Lithuanian services state that customers can complete the entire process in their respective language, from the initial conversation to the final stage of the application.[3][4] The Spanish-language service provides assistance from the submission of the application through contact with the bank and the signing of documents.[11]
The company is registered under industrial classification code 66.190, covering activities auxiliary to financial services other than insurance and pension funding.[12] Its registered corporate purpose includes capital and loan brokerage, the brokerage of financial and insurance services, database operations and participation in other companies.[7]
Motty is listed in the business register maintained by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway (Finanstilsynet).[13] In 2026, the company was reported to cooperate with more than 20 banks when obtaining and comparing loan offers for customers.[10]
